The Fox and the Forest

From the album "Shades of Gray"

The name of the song come from a short story about spies. It's a fun tune to play because of the middle section. I tried to create a moving bass line with some fingers and rhythm going with other ones through a descending pattern. Part of is is actually kind of painful to play because I have to stretch way beyond what is comfortable. My wife laughs when I say that. She says, "Well YOU wrote it, why not do it differently." I just had to play what I heard in my brain and make it come out of my hands. My hands are not very big and doing the stretch on a 12-string involves some uncomfortable contortions. It's always a challenge, but it's a fun one. Instruments used here are: Guild F2512 Deluxe 12-string (standard tuning, one whole step down) Cozart electric 12-string with EHX Mel-9 pedal 1990s Epiphone Accu-Bass (their P-bass clone) Dean 12-string banjo (in "Double Nashville tuning" SX 6-string banjo (in Nashville tuning)
